The Smile Project

The Smile Project is a registered charity (chy19480)  dedicated to bringing fun to disadvantaged children wherever they may be.  Here in Ireland we seek opportunities to bring joy to lives sadly lacking in such an essential  element of childhood. In many countries there is never a budget for fun! Through Magic, Juggling, Clowns, Puppetry and Music we aim to create memories that hopefully they will never forget. Our performer's page boasts some of Ireland's most talented children's entertainers, ensuring our shows reach a standard of which we can be proud. Our initial trip to Nepal in Jan 2011 was hugely successful and the following commendation was received from Fachtna Clandillon, founder/chairman of Nagarhope Ireland, who do incredible work with children in Nepal and without whom our tour could not have had such positive results.

"I HAVE BEEN DIRECTLY INVOLVED WITH THE SMILE PROJECT WHEN THEY PERFORMED 35 SHOWS IN NEPAL IN EARLY 2011. DURING THEIR 3 WEEKS HERE THEY PERFORMED THEIR SHOWS FOR DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN IN MANY SCHOOLS, ORGANISATIONS FOR HANDICAPPED, DEPRIVED, ORPHANED AND STREET CHILDREN. THEY ADAPTED WELL TO HAVING TO PERFORM SHOWS IN THE STRANGEST OF PLACES - INCLUDING ON ROOFS AND OPEN SPACES IN THE MOUNTAINS! I HAVE DEALT WITH MANY VOLUNTEERS AND VISITORS IN MY FOUR YEARS AS A SOCIAL WORKER IN NEPAL, BUT THE SMILE PROJECT  CREW SHOWED AN UNENDING COMMITMENT AND PROFESSIONALISM TO GIVE JOY AND LAUGHTER TO CHILDREN AND ADULTS ALIKE. I CAN ONLY ADD THAT PAT POWER AND HIS CREW HAVE STARTED SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL, SOMETHING THAT BRINGS A DIMENSION THAT IS OFTEN MISSING IN THESE PEOPLES LIVES - THE ABILITY TO SMILE AND FOR A FEW MINUTES FORGET ABOUT LIFE'S HARDSHIPS. I WISH THE SMILE PROJECT ALL THE SUCCESS IN THE COMING YEARS AND I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF CHILDREN EAGERLY AWAITING THEIR RETURN".

In 2012, in addition to returning to Nepal, we will endeavour to develop relationships with organisations here in Ireland that already work with children lacking in emotional and/or economic support. We know that The Smile Project can bring another valuable dimension to the excellent work being done by these organisations.
